Hey tumblr, my little sister’s 10-year-old friend has cancer and has exhausted basically all of his options in terms of being cured. There’s a drug being developed that could help deal with the types of tumors he has that but he isn’t being allowed to use them because of his age, and pediatric trials don’t start until it might be too late. If y’all could take a moment and sign this petition to be sent to Merck and other relevant pharmaceutical companies and spread the word it would be much appreciated!

Friendly reminder that it is okay to change how you identify

  • Human beings are constantly changing
  • New information constantly circulates
  • This can go for your gender as well

if you identify as genderless then change to genderfluid
that is okay
if you never change how you identify, that is also okay
identity does not have to be set in stone

Please pass this around - he is currently in Hamilton. I want everyone to know his face and his name so they can steer clear of him and remain safe.

Hey y’all. I need to find a new place to live.

I’m a queer afab nonbinary person seeking housing near BART to move into on May 1st in either Oakland, Berkeley, Emeryville, or SF. Can afford up to $600 monthly. I am fine with living in a tiny room, so that basement, garage, shed, storage room, RV, van, large closet etc. that was previously unconsidered should be considered. I’m a professional dogwalker and recently got an additional Quality Assurance job. I like making artsy stuff, drawing, zines, and choose-your-own adventure games. I come with an adorable kitten and a sweet 16 year old grandpa kitty. I can be kind of shy and don’t make a lot of noise usually. I don’t smoke anything (but don’t care if you do) and drink rarely (but don’t care if you drink more.) I like cooking for people. If I don’t find a place by May first I will definitely need a couch to crash on either with my cats or a place I can crash while my cats are boarded or with friends. I’m kind of down to the wire here. If you have a space or know of a space for me to live permanently or temporarily please inbox me or email me at xandircook@gmail.com

Hi! I still don’t have a place to live! Please keep signal boosting this.

I’ve never been female. But I have been black my whole life. I can perhaps offer some insight from that perspective. There are many similar social issues related to access to equal opportunity that we find in the black community, as well as the community of women in a white male dominate society…

When I look at — throughout my life — I’ve known that I wanted to do astrophysics since I was 9 years old…I got to see how the world around me reacted to my expressions of these ambitions. All I can say is, the fact that I wanted to be a scientist, an astrophysicist was hands down the path of most resistance through the forces of society.

Anytime I expressed this interest, teachers would say, ‘Oh, don’t you wanna be an athlete?’ I want to become someone that was outside of the paradigm of expectations of the people in power. Fortunately, my depth of interest of the universe was so deep and so fuel enriched that everyone of these curve balls that I was thrown, and fences built in front of me, and hills that I had to climb, I just reach for more fuel, and I just kept going.

Now, here I am, one of the most visible scientists in the land, and I wanna look behind me and say, ‘Where are the others who might have been this,’ and they’re not there! …I happened to survive and others did not simply because of forces of society that prevented it at every turn. At every turn.

…My life experience tells me that when you don’t find blacks, when you don’t find women in the sciences, I know that these forces are real, and I had to survive them in order to get where I am today.

So before we start talking about genetic differences, you gotta come up with a system where there’s equal opportunity, then we can have that conversation.

Neil DeGrasse Tyson in response to a question posed by Lawrence Summers, former Treasury Security and Harvard University President

"What’s up with chicks and science?"

Are there genetic differences between men and women, explain why more men are in science.

it’s called makeup

you can put eyeliner on a frat boy that doesn’t change the fact that’s he’s wearing a neon muscle shirt and nike flip flops

Time Magazine, instead of highlighting Kerry Washington and Laverne Cox, instead chose to highlight Jenji Kohan, a white woman, as responsible for the diversity in Scandal and Orange is the New Black.

Just as important and in a way that is shamefully rare today, Jenji’s characters are a breathtaking riot of color and sexual orientation onscreen.”

You’re right, Time Magazine, it is shameful. Shame on you.
